As Charles Schulz wrote, via Snoopy, “Good writing is hard work.”
But when done with purpose and focus, writing is also worthwhile, for both the writer and the reader. Good writing should leave the reader both smarter and more engaged for having read it, if not even entertained. For that matter, good writing should have those same impacts on the writer.
